Guildford Arts Summer Exhibition Returns
The popular Guildford Arts Annual Summer Art Exhibition returns to the historic riverside Mill Studio, next to the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre in the heart of the town this July. Browse, buy or simply behold the variety of aesthetic pleasures that await your eager eyes.
After a limited on-line presence last year, this thoughtfully curated contemporary art Exhibition promises much to entice the public back to look at art in person, dispelling our flat, on-screen experiences of the last year. Over 20 local and national artists will display their talent and expertise in glass, ceramics, sculpture, paintings, drawings, metalwork, prints and photography. Rich Miller, ceramicist and judge from The Great Pottery Throwdown will launch the Exhibition.
Landscapes and architecture have inspired several of the artists, who all interpret our changing world in diverse and detailed ways, ranging from the atmospheric fine art photographs of urban and street architecture of Jon McRae, the strong, bold colours of Tony Watson’s and Elaine Coles’ landscapes, the muted pallet of Lotta Teale and the painterly ceramics of Kirsty Macrae, to the three-dimensional fused glass representations of the Surrey Hills by Louisa Sullivan. Pippa Ward’s meticulously arranged and beautifully juxtaposed found objects comment on our increasing interaction with the natural environment, while Jan Ramscar’s exquisite and delicate camera-less close-ups of flowers and seeds, enlighten our understanding of photography.
Texture and layering may feature in many of the pieces, including the work of glassmakers Sami El-Dahshan and Caroline Rutter, the textiles of Alison Garret and the vibrant paintings of Aasiri Wickremage and Zuju Shareef, but this exuberant, wide-ranging Exhibition ensures that no two techniques or interpretations are the same.

Other works on display include the fluid creations of artistic blacksmith, Neil Brown, the precise still life of Chris Welsh, the witty observations of every day folk by Sue Ransley, contrasting print styles from Chris Gilbert and Emmett Casley and the joyous, colourful paintings of Sunita Khedekars.
Two Meet the Artist Saturdays provide an informal opportunity to chat to the artists and find out more about their inspiration, working styles and techniques. Younger visitors have their own Art Quiz, with art materials and prizes supplied. All art is for sale.
