CINDERELLA! TALKING TO THE ‘WICKED STEPMOTHER’ LUCY BENJAMIN
Panto is back at Guildford’s Yvonne Arnaud Theatre this Christmas. Join Cinderella and her Ugly Step Sisters for hottest ticket in town – Prince Charming’s Ball. Find out what Wicked Stepmother, Lucy Benjamin has to say about it all.
WHAT WAS THE FIRST PANTOMIME YOU APPEARED IN?
The first panto I ever appeared in was Mother Goose at the Wolverhampton Grand, back in 1991, starring Roy Barraclough.
WHO’S YOUR FAVOURITE PANTOMIME CHARACTER (EVER) AND WHY?
My fave panto character, based on the Cinderella we are putting on at the Yvonne Arnaud this year, has to be Wicked Stepmother that I have the fortune of playing for the first time! She’s got it all! Witty one liners, pure baddie attitude all while getting the bonus of being part of the traditional story that everyone knows and loves!
ASIDE FROM PANTO AND WHEN YOU’RE NOT IN PANTO, WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE THING TO DO AT CHRISTMAS?
My fave thing to do at Christmas when not appearing in Panto is to eat, drink and watch lots of Tv and Xmas movies with my daughters.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE THING TO DO IN SURREY AT CHRISTMAS?
My fave thing I’ll be doing while performing in Surrey will be to catch up with lots of family who live in the area.
WHAT’S ON CHRISTMAS WISH LIST THIS YEAR? / WHAT ARE YOU HOPING FOR IN YOUR STOCKING?
There’s nothing very exciting on my Christmas list this year! Although, I have to say I am partial to a pair of hoop earrings and a good book, so hopefully one of my kids will read this article and get the hint!
Yvonne Arnaud’s sparkling, award-winning pantomimes are made and rehearsed, in house at the theatre. Written, directed, designed and staged by their team, you can be sure of a thoroughly original production for all the family every time. Their recent pantomime Dick Wittington won them Best Ensemble in the UK Pantomime Awards. Cinderella will be the Yvonne Arnaud’s fourth pantomime directed by the theatre’s Chief Executive and Director Joanna Read.
Don’t wait to book – the clock is ticking.
